Bose is a manufacturer of high-quality audio products. Since 1964, the company has been creating devices that bring incredible sound to customers for a reasonable price. From headphones to speakers, there aren’t many things that Bose does wrong.

But that isn’t always the case. The Bose Solo 5 Soundbar is an expensive, highly popular product… but is it as good as advertised? In the modern world, as advancements in television and film take advantage of state-of-the-art technology, it’s important to have equipment that can highlight new features. The Bose soundbar is a product that many hope will do a wonderful job of depicting sounds from any service or television set, but does it?

For those who are wondering if the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar is actually as good as it seems, this review will shed a light on the truth about the sound system, and will go through its benefits, its negatives, and whether it’s really worth the price.

4.5/5 Editor’s score

Briefly about Base Solo 5 Soundbar

With the Bose Solo5, you don’t have to sacrifice quality for size. It’s designed so your TV and all your other devices can fit in one small corner of the room and still sound amazing. And because it only takes up 1″ of space on a wall or shelf, it won’t take over your living space — no matter how small it is.

Bose Solo 5 Soundbar quality

The Bose Solo 5 is unique as far as soundbars go. It’s much smaller than most others on the market, but that doesn’t mean the sound is worse or that the system is less effective. In fact, in my experience, the sound from the Solo 5 is shockingly good. Most of my other sound systems have been heavily dependent on a subwoofer, and I was nervous that the Bose soundbar would suffer from the same issues.

I was wrong, though. The soundbar delivers bass that fills the room, and I’m shocked that it comes from something so small. For people who have smaller, cozier living rooms or bedrooms, the Solo 5 is more than capable of delivering quality sound.

The soundbar also gets incredibly loud. It almost feels like surround-sound at times, a feat which genuinely shocks me. I have always been blown away by the products that Bose offers, especially their portable speakers and headphones, but I didn’t expect the sound from the Bose soundbar to be at the same level as everything else. Fortunately for me, and for anyone who wants to buy the soundbar, it’s just as good as you’d expect.

There are problems with the speaker, though, that can’t be denied. First things first, it isn’t cheap. At around $199, the small soundbar is definitely a premium product. Also, there are times where it feels as though the sound shifts through different levels of quality, and will occasionally malfunction or skip certain sections of audio. Usually, powering down the device will fix the problem, but it can be tedious at times.

In fact, there are clear advantages and disadvantages that stem from the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar, things which aren’t immediately noticeable.

Pros & cons

The benefits

There are many benefits of the Bose soundbar, especially for those who are looking to simplify their audio setup. Some of the benefits are:

  • SMALL SIZE. The Solo 5 is small and can fit in virtually any entertainment console.
  • NICE DESIGN. The Solo 5 is sleek and good looking.
  • QUALITY BASS. The Bose soundbar delivers quality bass.
  • CRISP AUDIO. The Bose soundbar delivers crisp, loud audio.
  • POWER-OFF FEATURE. The Bose soundbar will automatically power off after an hour of inactivity.
  • EASY TO SET UP. The Solo 5 is easy to set up.

I can’t explain how nice it is to have such a small soundbar that does such a quality job. That being said, the device doesn’t come without faults, and what kind of a review would this be if I didn’t mention everything to you.

The negatives

While there are so many good things about the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar, there are a few details about the product that can be tedious. And, while not everyone will experience these things, they are going to impact some of you who buy the Bose soundbar. A few of the negatives are:

  • THE PRICE. The Solo 5 isn’t cheap. It’s something that doesn’t make sense for everyone.
  • THE SIZE. The Bose soundbar is small. While that’s also a benefit, it can be dwarfed by other items in your entertainment console, and it is less powerful than its larger counterparts.
  • PROBLEMS WITH SOUND. The Solo 5 occasionally has sound problems that can impact the experience.

These negatives are certainly not enough to classify the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar as ‘bad.’ But they can be frustrating for those who are used to a higher-quality sound, or for people who aren’t typically inclined to spend almost two hundred dollars on a sound system. In the end, anyone considering the Bose soundbar should take these things into account when considering making this purchase.

Overall judgment

All things considered, the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar is worth the money. The number of people who will experience any problems is minimal, and the bass and volume capabilities make it one of the better sound systems on the market. It will last you a long time, and is perfect for people who are looking to transform their entertainment setup without all the work of investing in a large surround-sound system.

With a easily manageable setup, tons of features, and a history of quality, the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar is something that you can buy without fear of regret. Not everyone needs a soundbar; I’ve met plenty of people who can’t tell the difference between a television and a subwoofer. But for those of you who expect an amazing experience, who love television and films, and who want to elevate your entertainment space, the Bose Solo 5 is not only a good soundbar; it’s one of the best.
