Epson 8350 Home Cinema Review

There’s nothing better than heading out to the movies with your nearest and dearest, popcorn in one hand, tray of nachos in the other, as you kick back, relax, and enjoy a movie on the big screen.

Now, this is all well and good, but the problem with the movies, other than the price, is the fact that it can be tricky to concentrate when there are people all around you coughing, rustling their food wrappers, talking, recording on their phones, and generally being a pain in the rear end.

Watching a movie at home on the TV is fine, but it doesn’t really give you that authentic movie theatre experience. If you want that, you need to invest in a projector and create a home cinema setup, which is what we’re talking to you about today.

While there are heaps of projectors and home cinemas on the market today, the Epson 8350 Home Cinema has proved to be especially popular and is turning heads for all of the right reasons. Here, we’ll be providing an Epson 8350 Home Cinema review to see if it lives up to the hype.

What is the Epson 8350?

Short Review of Epson 8350 projector

Epson 8350 isn’t just a projector, it’s an entire home cinema setup in a projector. The Epson is easy to use, incredibly versatile and has proven itself to be one of the best projectors available on the market today.

The Epson 8350 is one of the most popular projectors/home cinemas on the market today, and rightfully so.

The 8350 was designed to replace the popular Epson 8100. As the 8100 was a very popular home cinema projector, Epson knew that the replacement 8350 needed to be something special.

Home cinema projectors are nothing new, and the novelty factor has certainly worn off now. Now, for a projector to do well, it needs to really offer plenty of features, crystal clear displays, and provide an impressive spec for an affordable price. The 8350 appears to have done exactly that.

Considered a more refined replacement to the older 8100, the Epson 8350 offers numerous features, including:

  • Contrast ratio of up to 50,000:1
  • Crystal clear display
  • D7 chip delivering 1920 x 1080p resolution
  • Aspect ratio: Native 16:9, compatible with 4:3 and 16:9 video formats
  • Reliable performance
  • Vibrant colour and display
  • C2Fine technology, 12-bit and 3LCD, 3-Chip technology
  • 2000 lumens colour
  • Clear and concise images
  • Very cost-effective
  • Up to 3 x brighter than other rival home cinema projectors
  • Easy setup and installation

What we liked

Now that we know a little more of the basics behind this home cinema projector, we’ll now get things started off properly on a positive note, by looking at some of the things that impressed us the most about this projector.

Image quality

As you might expect, having an impressive image quality is probably going to be very important when it comes to a home cinema projector, and you will be very pleased to hear that the image quality of this projector is one of the main standout points for us in this review.

This is an affordable projector yet it offers an image quality you would typically find with much higher spec models, in a much higher price bracket.

Designed for high light outputs in ambient light, the display offers vivid colours, good levels of brightness, and decent black levels for illuminated rooms. What does this mean? Basically, if you watch with a lamp on, the display will still be impressive.

As it offers 1080p display, this full HD experience is really brought to life in a darkened room – just like how a cinema is designed to be.

Another thing that impressed us with this projector was the setup.

Setting up this projector was very simple. It came with clear and concise instructions, everything was included and where it was supposed to be and once it was plugged in and switched on, it was simply a case of pressing ‘menu’ and following the on-screen instructions from there.

Don’t let this projector’s affordable price tag fool you, it really is a very impressive product for a very reasonable price.

Packed full of features, we can’t list each one in detail, but what we can do is talk about some of our favourites. For example, with a brightness level of 2000 lumens, you can watch this projector during the day or during the night and make out what is going on clearly.

Because it is a projector designed to function as part of a home cinema setup, it even comes complete with Epson’s trademark cinema filter, complete with expanded colour gamut to deliver an authentic and fully immersive movie experience.

As far as the display goes, you’ll find 3 settings, which are: Normal (for use with TV showings), Full (for widescreen and 16:9 images) and Zoom (for Letterbox images)

Other pros

  • Sleek and stylish design
  • Packed full of features
  • Great display
  • Great sound quality
  • Easy to setup and install
  • Opening distance of 19 feet, making it suitable for larger rooms and gardens

What we weren’t as impressed with

With the smooth, you must also take the rough, which is why we’ll now be using this Epson 8350 Home Cinema Review to highlight some of the things which we, and others, were not as thrilled with about this particular product.

Some of the main drawbacks associated with this projector include:

Lack of wireless connectivity

With more and more products now going wireless, including some projectors, the biggest drawback of this particular model is the fact that it does indeed lack wireless connectivity.

While the wires and cables are minimal, it is still a bit of a pain and can make the home theatre setup look a little “busy” and cluttered.

No in-built speakers

Another drawback is the fact that this projector doesn’t feature in-built speakers like some other devices. Obviously with the right sound system this isn’t much of an issue, but we feel it could have benefitted from in-built speakers as well.

Final thoughts

So, that brings this Epson 8350 Home Cinema Projector review to a close, so what did we think?

Well, as you can see from the above, we really like this projector. The device looks great, it does exactly what it needs to do, it’s easy to setup, and the quality of the images is fantastic.

There are of course a couple of drawbacks, but ultimately for the price, we can’t complain at all and we therefore can highly recommend this projector from Epson.
